For over 30 years, The James Beard Foundation has celebrated the top culinary talents across the country in the Restaurant and Chef Awards. This year, the nonprofit organization has recognized several establishments and individuals in Chicago for their exceptional talents in food, hospitality and other aspects of the industry, as well as being committed to values such as community, sustainability and equity.
On Monday, June 13, the Restaurant and Chef Award winners will be announced at a ceremony hosted by James Beard-winner chef Kwame Onwuachi at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Tickets go on sale Monday, March 20. And for those who can't be there in-person, tune in to the live broadcast on the James Beard Foundation's Twitter feed.
Another local luminary in the industry also made Chicago proud this year: Erika Allen, co-founder and CEO of Black- and women-led nonprofit farm Operations of Urban Growers Collective, was named one of the winners of the 2022 James Beard Foundation’s Leadership Awards. Allen was recognized for the strides she's made to forge a more just and equitable local food system, among other admirable contributions to the culinary scene.
