Gift of Song
A star songstress helps the University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation’s Women’s Board mark its 50th Grand Auction gala.
THE PARTY
The University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation’s Women’s Board celebrated five decades of its Grand Auction gala at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago with a stunning black-tie affair. The evening began with a sit-down dinner followed by a 40-minute performance by Grammy- and Tony-nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, who dazzled with performances of her hits “Love Song,” “Brave” and a showstopping cover of Sia’s “Chandelier.”
THE PEOPLE
Gala co-chairs Cynthia Chereskin and Barbara Sessions orchestrated the gala, which paid tribute to advertising firm Ogilvy & Mather for its continuing support of the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center.
THE PINNACLE
With exciting silent and live auction items—like a six-person private Kitchen Table dinner at Alinea and a custom alligator Ricky bag from Ralph Lauren—on offer, the nearly 600 guests bid generously, helping to raise more than $2.5 million for research at the Hyde Park-based cancer center. ‒Sarah Ryan
