On the heels of her wrenching story arc in The Handmaid’s Tale, actress Sydney Sweeney finds she has fallen in love—with the Windy City.
The hottest young actress in Hollywood would rather be in Chicago.
“I spent my first time in Chicago last summer and absolutely fell in love,” swoons Sydney Sweeney, the 21-year-old Spokane native known for roles on The Handmaid’s Tale and Everything Sucks! and soon to be seen in two major films. “Next weekend I’m probably going back—I have a day off.”
Invited by friends to see the city her grandfather was raised in, Sweeney turned a brief visit into a summerlong Chicago adventure, and continues to drop in whenever she can. “It’s beyond beautiful,” she says. “I’ve made more friends in one year than in five years in California. And the food! La Scarola? The Athenian Room? I’m starving in LA with all the vegan food.”
Not starving for work, Sweeney stars in the upcoming psychological drama Clementine and appears opposite Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, due in July. Working with such major stars “was very surreal,” Sweeney reflects. “I thought I was going to throw up, faint and pinch myself the entire time.”
