Held at 167 Events in the Fulton Market District, the After School Matters Annual Gala was organized to support after-school and summer programs for Chicago teens. The event featured interactive teen showcases and performances, with guests enjoying “Teens in Action” displays highlighting student work, from boxing and music to cooking, perfume-making and visual arts.
Presented by the After School Matters Board of Directors with Visionary Sponsors GCM Grosvenor, Hobson Lucas Family Foundation, Lisa Wardell and an anonymous donor, the gala drew more than 400 civic leaders, with remarks delivered by After School Matters CEO Mary Ellen Caron and Board Chair Mellody Hobson. The evening featured a dance performance by Latinos Juntos from Curie Metropolitan High School and a vocal performance from HHW Vocal Arts Ensemble; teen emcee and former Creative Writing teen ambassador Dominic Mancilla and ABC7 Anchor Samantha Chatman (an After School Matters alum) kept the event lively with remarks throughout the night.
The paddle raise brought in nearly $120,000 for the After School Matters Stipend Fund, which pays teens to participate in programs, reducing financial barriers and benefiting their families and communities. In total, the event raised over $2.5 million to support this impactful organization.
