The Party
Guests broke out the bow ties, bowlers and vintage cigarette holders for the Black and Tan Supper Club, an intimate dinner supporting the About Face Theatre—the innovative house that has put on thought-provoking plays exploring gender and sexual identity since 1995. The party’s 1930s theme celebrated the days of the Pansy Craze, a time when gay social clubs flourished in Chicago’s Towertown, Bronzeville and Woodlawn neighborhoods.
The People
During a cocktail hour featuring Angel’s Envy cocktails, Tila Von Twirl spiced up the evening with a cheeky burlesque performance. Later, Meghan Murphy teamed with About Face Theatre Artistic Associate John Francisco, Charlotte Rivard-Hoster and Matt Carroll for a lively jazz set.
Best in Show
After dinner, guests generously responded to a call from event co-chairs Rob Abernathy and Becky Huinker to donate to the theater, raising over $45,000. The proceeds will benefit the theater’s programming, including the About Face Youth Theatre, which creates a community where teens can create theater as a means of empowerment and activism. Now that’s a cause worthy of kicking up your heels. –Photos by Timmy Samuel
