THE PROJECT
Ten years after designing a client’s first home in Glen Ellyn, Amy Storm of Amy Storm & Company was tapped again to work her magic on their second abode—a modern property in a neighborhood surrounded by more traditionally styled homes. The facade features brick and dark colors, and Storm and her team set out to create an interior that honors the exterior’s moody yet elegant aesthetic. “We were excited to do it all over again,” Storm says of working with the clients.

THE PROCESS
The home offered the perfect palette for Storm and her team to bring the homeowner’s vision to fruition. Noting that the client favors modern twists on the classics and is not shy about incorporating bursts of color, Storm suggested a plan for cabinets, finishes, lighting and more that was exactly on target with the client’s desires. “It was clear we were all on the same track, and it helped the project to move quickly and easily, which is always more fun,” Storm notes.

THE DETAILS
Black and white hues serve as the base of the home’s overall design. “We used color sparingly so the bones of the house were very consistent and would stand the test of time,” Storm says. Overall, the space exudes a contemporary aesthetic with warm woods, terrazzo flooring, natural stones and some more dramatic moments weaved in by way of gold accents and custom pieces such as the dining room chandeliers and living room coffee table. And downstairs, plenty of room for entertaining awaits. “In the basement, the client wanted a bar, wine and cigar storage, a workout room, a card table, and a guest bedroom and bathroom,” adds senior designer Kelsey Demetralis. “We got it all in there—and then some.”

THE CHALLENGES
“Although not necessarily a challenge, the basement had an open floor plan, and the client had a sizable wish list,” Storm says of the area. “It took a few reiterations on paper to get it figured out.”

THE OUTCOME
A fusion of classic and modern elements transformed the space into a dreamy haven of timeless elegance. Storm concludes, “The client was very trusting in us from day one. We were able to include many custom pieces to fit their wants and needs and enhance their classic yet simply glam interior.”
