Amy Storm & Company works magic on a new-construction property to create a dream home in Park Ridge.
The foyer makes a striking first impression with ARTO's Artillo Conche tile in Antik Gray and Bone and The Urban Electric Co.'s Adams chandelier in black metal and cerused oak.
THE CLIENT
Patience is a virtue—especially when it comes to landing a busy interior designer to take on your home project. That served one Park Ridge resident well when it came to hiring in-demand firm Amy Storm & Company to design their new construction home. “They called at a time when we were wrapping up another project in the neighborhood, just around the corner,” explains Storm. “We were very busy, but she was so kind and patient that we agreed to take it on. The next thing we knew, the pandemic hit and what should have taken a year to build ended up taking two. She was patient and had an existing home she didn’t need to unload immediately, so we were able to adjust to the norms of the world then and keep the project moving along.”
The sitting room stands out with Baker's Amoura sofa, Violi coffee table by Arteriors and The Urban Electric Co.'s Walska pendant.
THE PRIORITY
“The owner had a very specific design idea for the house architecture,” notes Storm, “so as that took shape we jumped on board with the architect and figured out how to make it fit well into the neighborhood and how to design an interior that complemented the exterior but also felt appropriate for the suburban area where the client lives.”
Eye-catching ARTO Artillo Arabesque Winslet tile adds to the appeal of a custom bar by Hoosier House Cabinets.
THE CHALLENGE
With a wide but shallow lot and an existing pool to be worked around, Storm’s team had to be savvy with the space. “We ended up creating a guest space on one end of the house and the main bedrooms on the other side to create a nice division when entering from the foyer to the different ‘wings.’ We also wanted to create a great screened-in porch with access from the primary suite and kitchen space, so we worked on the floor plan to create really nice flow and accessibility.”
The cozy great room features custom sofas and coffee tables by Ace Covering Upholstery and Peregrine chairs by Ambella Home Collection.
John Richard's Echo pendant, Ambella Home Collection's stacked ottoman with brass ring and a Boyce acrylic tub by Signature Hardware add interest to the primary bath.
THE DETAILS
For Storm, the project’s showstopper is the arched windows leading from the kitchen to the covered patio space. “I think we waited about eight months for those windows since we ordered them in the midst of the pandemic,” explains the designer, elaborating, “We kept the interior design simple, not fussy, creating a lot of white, voluminous and simply designed spaces with subtle applications to ceilings. We honed in on smaller details and special spaces for a punch of pattern or color, like the bar area off the kitchen, the large mudroom that connects to the living spaces, and the full bathroom and outdoor pool areas.”
A stunning spherical chandelier by John Richard creates a moment in the arched primary bedroom entry.
A pair of Settia pillows by Jaipur Living add a finishing touch to pool loungers purchased by the client.
THE OUTCOME
“The homeowner is thrilled with the finished product, which really reflects her personal design aesthetic,” notes Storm. “But even more, she loves to host friends and family in her new home, sharing all the beauty with those she loves.”
Avalon counter stools by Palecek and a trio of sleek Tetra pendants by The Urban Electric Co. highlight the kitchen.
