The Chicago Public Library and its namesake foundation presented its annual Carl Sandburg Literary Awards dinner, which drew scores of local wordsmiths, including Jack Fuller, Chris Ware and Dawn Turner Trice, and their fellow book-lovers, to The Forum on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago. After a conversation-filled cocktail reception and lavish dinner, authors Isabel Allende, Michael Lewis and Christine Sneed were recognized for their impressive literary accomplishments. The mingling continued during the post-ceremony book signing, and by the end of the night, a record $1.5 million was raised for CPL’s many outreach programs. –Photography by Johnny Knight and Dan Rest
