The Party
The School of the Art Institute’s student fashion show, The Walk, is always one of Chicago’s most anticipated style events, but this year the festivities carried special significance. Not only was SAIC’s Fashion Design department celebrating its 80th anniversary, but the school’s own Nick Cave, one of the contemporary art world’s most respected figures, was the recipient of the prestigious Legend of Fashion award.
The Scene
Fashion-lovers eagerly took their seats in anticipation of both the runway show itself and Cave’s much-buzzed-about performance piece. Neither disappointed, as Cave’s joyous three-part parade of colorful costumed figures had guests beaming from ear to ear, while the looks coming down the catwalk left no doubt that Chicago is a fashion force to be reckoned with. Just ask Fashion Police co-host and style arbiter George Kotsiopoulos, who flew in for the occasion.
The Highlights
A post-show strolling dinner at Harris Theater’s Rooftop Terrace had students and their models mingling with partiers, several of whom wasted no time in asking if they could purchase one of the chic creations. Flash sale, indeed! -Photos by Jonjie Baniel and Bob Carl
