The Party
Marwen’s annual Paintbrush Ball, one of the city’s most lively and unique fundraisers, drew upward of 450 supporters for an evening of art and merriment. Guests at the star-studded event, including Mayor Rahm Emanuel and designer Maria Pinto, honored Northern Trust chairman and CEO Frederick H. Waddell with the inaugural Marwen Impact Award for his generous investments over the past two decades.

The Scene
The party’s classic black-and-white motif set the perfect blank canvas. An interactive wall invited doodlers to create a continuous piece of line art. Others flocked to the portrait booth, where Marwen students and alumni drew original contour-line portraits of partiers. The program included an inspiring spoken- word performance by Marwen student and SAIC scholarship recipient Jada Harvey. Guests danced along with DJ Matt Roan and enjoyed Sprinkles cupcakes and Half Acre brews.

The Highlights
The evening’s auctions were an impressive success, with items such as a luxurious stay at a Colorado resort and a Chicago foodie’s dream dining package (think dinners at top restos like Sepia and Nico Osteria) raising more than $160,000 for Marwen’s free arts programs for underserved youth. –Photos by Timothy Samuels
