“Even before I became a wedding gown designer, I always loved upcycling vintage pieces,” says Kpoene’ Kofi-Bruce. “Taking apart an old, unfashionable piece of clothing, seeing the little quirks the previous seamstress used while making it, and adding my own chapter to the history of the piece so it can get a second chance.” She’s doing just that with the launch of her Black-, woman- and LGBT-owned label, Bricolage Bridal: the first-of-its-kind luxury zero-waste bridal brand. The collection’s pieces are in a luxe league of their own: There’s a lavender and gray chiffon dress with detachable puff sleeves, a tulle and satin skirt with a 10-foot train, an assortment of earrings to tie the ensemble together and more. Available online and in Kofi-Bruce’s Lincoln Park storefront, each gown comes with an origin tag highlighting its unique tale for the modern bride seeking exclusivity. “With Bricolage I can offer every bride the chance to add her story to the history of a piece,” Kofi-Bruce says. “I hope that each gown will mean something truly special to the bride who chooses it.” bricolagebridal.com
