Focusing on a sustainable future and its Next Century Plan, the Brookfield Zoo hosted its 43rd annual Whirl black-tie gala at the Hilton Chicago, themed “Brilliant Horizons.” With an emphasis on promoting wildlife conservation and animal safety, the event held up-close experiences with several of the Zoo’s ambassadors during the cocktail hour, including Ruthie the scarlet macaw, PJ the porcupine and Medusa, the Dumeril’s ground boa.
The event was co- chaired by Women’s Board member Katie Feagans and Board of Trustees member Jim Bryan. More than 450 corporate, civic and philanthropic leaders from around the Chicago area were in attendance. Throughout the night, guests enjoyed performances by the Ken Arlen Evolution Orchestra.
The evening featured a paddle raise, raffle drawing and a live auction led by Jonathan Kraft, showcasing items like tickets to Justin Timberlake’s world tour, a Garrard’s pearl and diamond necklace, an exclusive adventure at the Brookfield Zoo and luxury stays in sought-after international destinations. The event raised more than $1.5 million to support premium animal care and welfare initiatives and conservation programs at the zoo.
Flamingos from Brookfield Zoo enlivened the evening.
