THE PARTY Almost 700 guests attended the Goodman Theatre’s jungle-themed gala at The Fairmont Chicago, which raised more than $1 million for the Goodman’s Education and Community Engagement Programs. THE SCENE The evening kicked off with cocktails, exotic music and hors d’oeuvres—think tandori chicken sandwiches and lamb lollipops with a coconut macadamia crust—before moving to the majestic Imperial Ballroom, which Kehoe Designs had tricked out with lush tablescapes and a massive waterfall. THE HIGHLIGHTS A succulent meal of tamarind glazed shrimp, beef filet with spiced Israeli couscous and a round of decadent desserts was topped only by musical performances from Tony Award-winner Mary Zimmerman’s musical adapation of the beloved classic The Jungle Book, now playing at the Goodman. Members of the cast performed seven songs, including favorites like “The Bare Necessities” and “I Wanna Be Like You” (sung by Broadway legend André De Shields), as well as original arrangements prepared exclusively for the new production.
