Fashion designer Caroline Hu has already experienced dramatic highs and lows in her young career: Just a year after starting her label in 2018, she was named a semifinalist of the prestigious LVMH Prize before the pandemic brought the industry to a standstill. Now, the New York-based Hu has regained that momentum with a stunning new collection that has the fashion world taking notice—including Chicago style queen and boutique owner Ikram Goldman.

“This collection has a real playfulness and airy, magical spirit to it, with beautiful tulle, embroidery, lace and bows, with gorgeous dresses and tops and skirts,” says Goldman. “She has a sense of what’s new, hip, cool and right in design, and she’s nailing all aspects of it.” As feminine and fairy-tale-like as the garments are, says Goldman, they also have a touch of edge and rock ‘n roll. “She shows a fearlessness in working with fabrics—like she takes tulle and chiffon and weaves them together and molds the clothes to the body in a very thoughtful way.”
