There was no better way to celebrate Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s 37th season than dancing the night away at its annual Spotlight Ball. Donning their evening best—sans leotard and ballet slippers—supporters of the company waltzed to Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park for a three-course dinner. Honorary chairs Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Amy Rule welcomed the event’s 450-plus attendees, including renowned choreographer William Forsythe, recipient of one of the evening’s two Spotlight Awards. The evening truly picked up tempo when Hubbard Street dancer Jason Hortin gracefully performed “A Picture of You Falling,” a five-minute solo set to electronic music alongside awe-inspiring sound effects.
