THE PARTY The ballroom at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago was transformed by HMR Designs into an elegant laboratory for the 49th annual Grand Auction Gala, the Breakthrough Ball, to celebrate the discoveries that have fueled major cancer breakthroughs. THE PEOPLE Along with the physicians and researchers from the University of Chicago, who were celebrated for their dedication to the detection, treatment and cure of cancer, the guests joined Women’s Board President Cynthia Chereskin and event co-chairs Annette Carroll and Annemette Clausen in bidding on silent and live auction prizes. THE PINNACLE Two of the most exquisite donations of the evening were diamond earrings from Hartmann’s of Copenhagen and a Ralph Lauren shopping spree paired with tickets to attend the Ralph Lauren 2016 Fall Runway Show. The evening raised $1.125 million, stacking the odds that the Breakthrough Ball will, in fact, lead to a breakthrough in cancer research. –Photos by Fig Media and Dan Rest
