Every year, Mina Im and Shaheen Butt travel north to The American Club resort in Kohler, Wis.—and during one weekend getaway in 2020, Shaheen proposed. The bride’s favorite part of this destination wedding? “Getting up in front of all our guests and saying a thank-you speech in English and also in my native language, Korean,” she says. “Shaheen’s speech made the entire room cry, since his dad has passed and couldn’t be there to celebrate with us. It was a great way to honor his dad.”
Mina is a well-known foodie influencer (@chicagofoodgirl on Instagram), so curating the menu was of utmost importance. “My favorite dish was the roasted sea bass with saffron beurre blanc, herb potato gnocchi and garlic spinach,” she says of the three-course meal. And, of course, guests left with foodie favors—“his” and “hers” doughnuts from Stan’s, where the couple went on one of their first dates. “Your wedding should be personal and reflect you as a couple,” Mina suggests. “So make sure to draw inspiration from how you met, your first date and more.”
