Christie’s just announced the first-ever auction of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept ‘Marvel Black Panther’ Flying Tourbillon, just one of a number of enviable timepieces available during its Watches Online: The Marvel(ous) Sale, running Aug. 24 to Sept. 7.

The limited edition watch was unveiled in April, the first from an ongoing collaboration between Audemars Piguet and Marvel Studios. Hand-painted in bold purples and white gold, a 3D figure of the beloved hero jumps out from the face.
“Is it necessary to remind that a one-off version of the same model, created to raise funds for two charities, First Book and Ashoka, sold for US$ 5.2 million, making it the most expensive Audemars Piguet model ever sold?” Alexandre Bigler, Vice President and Head of Watches at Christie’s Asia Pacific, is quoted in a press release. “Inevitably, the sale of this unique timepiece has heightened the desirability of the ‘Black Panther,’ of which only 250 were made and all sold.”
The “Marvel Black Panther” is only one in a slew of eye-catching timepieces made available during this digital auction. A rare Audemars Piguet Tropical Dial Royal Oak Ref. 5402ST ‘A Series’ is also up for grabs, as is a Gérald Genta Minute Repeater with Jumping Hour and Retrograde Minutes, the latter of which features a green guilloché dial and platinum case with ribbed profile.

Collectors will be happy to note four Patek Philippe watches on the bidding block, including a unique platinum version of the Ref. 3445 style. A Rolex Ref. 8171 “Padellone” and Roger Dubuis Limited Edition White Gold Double Tourbillon help round out the auction highlights.
Looking for something more exotic? Two Haute Joaillerie pieces are sure to catch your eye; a white gold Chopard bracelet watch set with diamonds and emeralds, and a Piaget set with 94 marquise-cut white diamonds totaling 16 carats, with 43 rubies at 16.68 carats, too.
