THE PARTY The 47th Chicago International Film Festival hosted its annual 15 days of world-class cinema and events, as actors, directors, producers and the like invaded Chicago. THE SCENE More than 55 countries were represented in the 128 narrative films, 15 documentaries and 52 short films. Among them were numerous U.S. and North American premieres. More than 163 filmmakers participated in post-screening discussions for audience members. Closing night featured a presentation of Michel Hazanavicius’ The Artist. And this year’s festival also honored French film director/producer Claude Lelouch’s 50-year history as a filmmaker with a Silver Hugo award. THE HIGHLIGHT A longtime supporter of Chicago Public Schools, the Chicago International Film Festival once again welcomed CPS students to theaters for the Education Outreach Screening Program, which included eight screenings for students from 23 schools.
