THE PARTY This gala—planned by a committee of prominent Chicagoans that included chair Myra Price and co-chairs Anne Burke, Merri Dee and Connie Lindsey—raised more than $400,000 to support the Black Creativity program, which pays tribute to the culture, heritage and science contributions of African-Americans. THE SCENE The annual Black Creativity juried art exhibition featured 100 original works of art from amateur and professional African-American artists from around the country, and guests had the opportunity to view these works, as well as artwork submitted from local high school artists, while enjoying cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. THE HIGHLIGHTS Revel Decor created a futuristic atmosphere to complement this year’s theme, “African Americans in Innovation.” Eight lavish buffet stations were designed to reflect the global influences of the different cuisines, from pan-Asian to Moroccan. Grammy-nominated R&B group After 7 delighted guests with a special performance. Photos by John Wheeler and J.B. Spector
