Creative Sparks

The Party
The Museum of Science and Industry welcomed some 700 guests to one of its most anticipated signature events: the Black Creativity Gala, which this year raised nearly $360,000 for the landmark institution’s programming that champions the cultural and scientific contributions of African-Americans.

The Scene
Arriving partiers were ushered to the Juried Art Exhibition, where they sipped signature cocktails and took in artworks from new and noted African-American artists from across the country.

The Highlights
As one might expect, creative details abounded, such as an alluring arrangement of petite martinis on a tiered ice sculpture, impressive even to the most seasoned gala-goers. Lavish food stations featured Thai vegetable curry and crawfish mac and cheese—something for every taste, like the museum’s exhibits themselves, open to the revelers. The most adventurous posed for photos in the 40-foot-tall tornado simulator before hitting the dance floor, where DJ Lil John and the Gentlemen of Leisure kept the crowd moving with an energetic mix of pop hits. –Photos by Alison Neidt and John Wheeler
