Culinary Craze

| April 4, 2013 | Parties National

THE PARTY More than 1,000 guests attended the La Dolce Vita-themed gala at the Fairmont Chicago for the 16th annual Grand Chefs Gala, featuring tasting stations of epic proportions, an awards presentation honoring the city’s celebrated chefs and a live auction to benefit a worthy cause. During cocktail hour, guests scrambled to hit the multitude of tasting stations presented by the city’s highly regarded chefs so that they could vote for the evening’s best. In the end, Top Chef fan favorite Fabio Viviani, who recently opened Siena Tavern in River North, took home the Eurest People’s Choice Award. THE SCENE Following the seated dinner, a nightcap portion of sweet treats and custom cocktails were served as guests hit the dance floor. The night also honored the 2012 Jean Banchet Award for Culinary Excellence winners—which included Chef of the Year Matthias Merges of Yusho and Rising Chef of the Year Chris Nugent of Goosefoot—who were recognized for culinary originality and talent. THE HIGHLIGHTS The exciting live auction featured a private in-home dinner for 10 with Viviani and a trip to L.A. for the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards, helping to raise $525,000 for the organization.
