Dancing With the Stars

| May 30, 2013 | Parties National

THE PARTY The Women’s Board of The Joffrey Ballet drew 800 guests to its annual Spring Gala. The evening kicked off with a performance at Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, where patrons were treated to the premiere of the Joffrey Academy of Dance Artistic Director Alexei Kremnev’s new piece, “Prokofiev Suite.” In addition, the company performed Gerald Arpino’s “Light Rain” and other pieces curated by Joffrey Ballet Artistic Director Ashley Wheater. THE SCENE Following the performance attendees were whisked away on trollies to the Hilton Chicago for cocktails and dinner in the Grand Ballroom. Company members joined them for an afterparty of dancing to DJ-spun tunes and live Latin percussionists in the Hilton’s Blue Star Lounge. THE HIGHLIGHTS More than $1.2 million was raised for the Joffrey Academy of Dance and Joffrey Ballet’s Community Engagement programs, which help the company positively impact children and young adults. For the first time the performance featured 100 students (including 40 trainees from countries across the world), illustrating the transformation of dancers emerging from the Community Engagement programs and ultimately taking a place with the internationally renowned company.
