Best Kitchen Winners: O’Brien Harris, Tiburon Homes, Michael Abraham Architecture
O’Brien Harris reimagines a Hinsdale kitchen with a stunning Park City-inspired aesthetic.
Calacatta Lincoln marble countertops from Calia Stone, a Riloh Equil Even light fixture and sleek Wolf stainless steel range create a blend of sophistication and functionality.
The Project
With an active lifestyle and three energetic sons, a spacious kitchen that would support both daily living and entertaining was crucial for the clients. After moving into their charming single-family home in Hinsdale, they charged Laura O’Brien of O’Brien Harris with designing a kitchen that seamlessly integrates practicality with style. Inspired by their love for the elegant mountain vibe of Park City, UT, they envisioned a space that blends the best of both worlds—combining the open, functional space they need with the sophisticated mountain style they adore.

In the breakfast room, Bellevue wide cone pendant lights hang over CB2 Stature black dining armchairs.
The Detail
“This home was a winner from the start,” says O’Brien. “The client was open to ideas and guidance by us and the team; one specific [ask], though, was to have the island seating at table level. Not a typical request, but we were able to achieve this while still creating a cool and modern aesthetic.” Building on this innovative approach, O’Brien and the team went on to further emphasize the kitchen’s architectural features. Recognizing the potential for the second-floor catwalk to create a dramatic view of the breakfast table below, they installed custom metal brackets with pendants that gracefully extend and drop down, adding to the kitchen’s charm.
Sun Valley Bronze contemporary grip handles adorn the kitchen cabinets and Lou Lou wall sconces from The Urban Electric Company provide illumination above a custom O’Brien Harris double sink.
The Outcome
Shares O’Brien, “[The clients] really felt blown away with the finished product, and knew that the creative minds on the team pushed this to a level that they would not have gotten to on their own.”
