Best Lake House Winners: Lowell Custom Homes, Michael Abraham Architecture, Amy Storm & Company, B&J Tree and Landscape Services
Lowell Custom Homes assembles a team of design stars to make a family’s lake house dreams come true.
Visual Comfort’s Comtesse uplight chandelier in hand-rubbed antique brass stands out in the foyer, which also boasts ceiling detail in white oak herringbone designed by Amy Storm & Company and installed by Lowell Custom Homes; visible through the archway, framed artwork “Mirrored Nature” sourced from Leftbank Art draws the eye.
Highlights of the great room include RH’s Thaddeus round chandelier, Stanton Carpet’s Boston Bay rug in stone, and a custom sectional sofa and coffee table designed by Amy Storm & Company and fabricated by Ace Coverings.
The Client
On the hunt for an abode on Geneva Lake that would accommodate their large family, the client was drawn to Lowell Custom Homes. “While cruising the lake we saw several beautiful homes under construction that were being built by Lowell,” says the owner. “We contacted their office and arranged a meeting, and after spending only a few hours with Scott Lowell, we knew that the Lowell team was the builder for us.”
Cabinetry by Arbor Mills painted Benjamin Moore’s White Heron is accented with a sleek backsplash in Crafted white gloss tile by Virginia Tile.
The Priority
Two things were key when it came to designing the property, notes Lowell Custom Homes VP Kim LaCroix: “Accommodating the entire family and outdoor living space.” That sentiment is echoed by the owner, stating that the home needed to be “spacious, comfortable and provide dramatic views of beautiful Geneva Lake.”
The Challenge
Sometimes the trickiest things about a project can be the most rewarding to overcome, and that’s the case for site superintendent Tim Voss, who says “the overall challenge of the project due to the site location, narrow size and proximity to the neighbors kept it interesting,” adding that “working with such a great client and seeing their dream develop” was a highlight.
A custom Arbor Mills hood and Bardiglio Stagg honed tile backsplash from The Fine Line feature in the kitchen.
The Details
LaCroix notes that many details of the project—which also featured valuable contributions from project coordinator Katrina Grant—ended up being outstanding, “[including] the front door and entryway with the incredible millwork surrounding that space, the boys and girls bunkroom space over the garage [and] the outdoor living space.” As for Lowell Custom Homes founder and president Scott Lowell, highlights were “the exceptional design on the trim by the architects and designers, and the Lowell execution with enhancements and modification during the actual build.”
The Outcome
“Honestly, it was truly a wonderful experience,” sums up LaCroix. “The kindest homeowners/family paired with exceptional architecture, an incredible designer and the most talented trade partners.”
The home’s outdoor space beckons with a Laurel aluminum dining table and chairs plus Havana lounge chairs, all from RH.
