Less than a year after opening their doors, Scottfree Salon & Barber has been hailed as one of the top Chicago salons by the likes of GQ, Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair. Located at the convergence of Lincoln Park and Old Town, the acclaimed salon is committed to showcasing their clients’ inner beauty so they can put their best foot forward.
Founder Scott Yance began his career in Chicago and longed to return to start his own small business. His friend and now fellow owner Steve Olson notified Scott that he would be moving from D.C. to Chicago: the two eagerly discussed combining a hair salon and barber in a refined manner. Opening an Old Town salon in the midst of a pandemic was no easy feat. From shipping delays to labor shortages, Scott and Steve experienced the general challenges of opening a small business and more. Since opening in July of 2021, Scottfree Salon has grown their loyal clientele to include actors, athletes, CEOs and chefs from across the nation.
From barbering services with hot towels and straight razor shaves to color, extensions and cuts, the Old Town salon’s concierge service takes care of every precise detail. The well-trained artists of Scottfree Salon are routinely educated in the latest treatments and styles to ensure all clients’ looks are masterfully created. In addition, artists utilize the brand’s product line that is second to none in the industry to execute each signature style.
“We are so fortunate to be located in such a beautiful neighborhood and our space radiates relaxation,” says Yance. “The only thing our clients need to do is sit back and enjoy the positive vibes.” The salon also accepts music requests should one excitedly have a favorite tune to share.
Beyond their exceptional hair care services, Scottfree Salon prides itself on partnering with fellow local businesses to produce a variety of wonderful events. Chicago fashion designer DoviArt has stopped by to conceive its hair styles for New York Fashion Week. The salon recently presented a Holistic Happy Hour with savory vegan and vegetarian cuisine, wine and reiki practitioners on-hand. And, a Ukraine fundraiser was hosted at Scottfree Salon to benefit families and children in the war-stricken region.
“There is such a rich history to this neighborhood (Old Town), people and businesses alike care about each other and work together. It’s a beautiful mix of cultures and generations, and a perfect fit for Scottfree,” says Yance.
In the coming month, Scottfree Salon looks forward to partnering with Ford General at the Old Town Art Fair. Complimentary mens cuts and women’s blow outs will be available right on Well St. with cocktails and coffee to sip.
