The Party
Students from some of the city’s top fashion programs, including the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Columbia College, showcased their stylish creations at the 13th Annual Driehaus Awards for Fashion Excellence. The stakes: thousands of dollars in prizes and the opportunity to display one’s designs at Neiman Marcus Michigan Avenue.
The Scene
An all-star judging panel featuring Lindsay Segal of Luxury Garage Sale, Project Runway alum Katelyn Pankoke, costume designer Alison Siple and Neiman Marcus Vice President Wendy Krimins kept a keen eye on the runway as 25 student designers revealed their couture creations. After a live auction led by Bill Kurtis and Donna LaPietra, it was announced that Kendel Kennedy of SAIC had won both the first prize of $5,000 and the Neiman Marcus showcase with her sophisticated, avant-garde collection.
The Highlights
A post-show afterparty headlined by DJ Megan Taylor had fashion-lovers indulging in a delicious late-night buffet and exploring the vast collection of vintage automobiles assembled in the space.
