Dual Concept Design adds serious personality—and a vibrant sense of color—to a single-family home in Lakeview.
Two beloved gold-framed, handpainted de Gournay panels in the living room served as the inspiration and starting point for the project’s design.
THE CLIENT
The adage “When you know, you know” certainly fits in the case of the recent project by Chicago-based firm Dual Concept Design, headed by co-founders Andrea Fripp and Paulina Cervantes.
In the entry hallway, a Harlow console by Made Goods, Quatrefoil lamp in blush pink from Couture Lamps and a pair of the client’s own poufs make for a warm welcome.
Having purchased a multifamily two-flat in Lakeview and converted it into a single-family home, the client set about jazzing up the interiors. They discovered Dual Concept through Houzz, and the rest is, as they say, history. “As soon as she said ‘I love color,’” says Fripp, “we knew it was meant to be.”
Makelike wallcovering in Lush Red sourced at Bradley makes the entry a moment of drama.
THE PRIORITY
Faced with a beautiful new structure but lackluster interiors, the client’s goal was clear. “They were desperately seeking someone to help them transform their space into one that reflects who they are as a family,” explains Cervantes, who served as co-lead on the project with Fripp.
Colorful art by Trudy Lynn Elliott (@trudylynnelliott) and a table by Eurocraft stand out in the dining room.
“They wanted color, durability, and to bring in touches of their Chinese heritage. The family owns two gorgeous gold-framed, handpainted de Gournay panels, which served as the inspiration and starting point to develop the design.”
Rich gold accents pop in the living room.
THE CHALLENGE
“The project was being executed during the beginning of the pandemic; therefore, lead times on all the products were the biggest challenge,” says Fripp.
Peanuts-inspired art by Tom Everhart (everhartstudios.com) adds whimsy to the breakfast room.
THE DETAIL
“We love how the custom paneling with contrasting wallcovering in the [primary] bedroom bring additional interest to the bed wall,” notes Cervantes. “We are also in love with the reading nook we created with the custom built-in chaise lounge and gold 3D artwork.”
Casamance wallcoverings from Lucid Collections give the office a sophisticated sheen.
THE OUTCOME
Sums up Fripp, “The client truly couldn’t be happier. She loves that we turned her house into her home.”
In the primary bedroom, lush decorative panels in Holly Hunt’s Enchanted Forest pattern draw the eye like a magnet.
Perfectly filling a nook in the primary bedroom, a custom-designed built-in chaise fabricated by Eurocraft is accented with Holly Hunt Gossamer Luster wallcovering and—a lovely touch harking to the client’s Chinese heritage—a cluster of handmade flowers by Redwood Stoneworks (@redwoodstoneworks).
