THE PARTY The Lincoln Park Zoo Women’s Board delivered glitz and glam for the 35th annual Zoo Ball, themed Hollywood & Vines and presented by Guggenheim. THE PARTY ANIMALS Co-chaired by Rosemary Jones, Susan Erler and Kirsten Rider, the event welcomed 1,000 attendees on a red carpet (complete with paparazzi) with flutes of Champagne and dry Grey Goose martinis. Guests were free to visit the lions and leopards, take the carousel for a spin and bid on silent auction items including a week’s ski vacation in Breckenridge and a trip to Seven Mile Beach on the island of Grand Cayman. Food for Thought’s seated dinner started with a sweet prawn cocktail with tomato, avocado, celery and lemon verbena, followed by surf-and-turf and, of course, monkey bread. After a live auction—with a vacay in Scotland valued at $20,000 and two BMW driving experiences provided by Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana BMW Centers up for grabs—the crowd danced under a candlelit tent to the Ken Arlen Orchestra. THE BOTTOM LINE More than $1 million was raised to support the zoo as a free community treasure. Photos by John Reilly Photography and Paul Strabbing
