Fab 5: Places to Take in the Air & Water Show

Lily Sperry | August 15, 2016 | Feature Features

Nothing says summer in Chicago quite like the Air & Water Show. Here, five ways to take in the sights and sounds of one of the city's most popular festivals.
An aircraft artfully maneuvers over North Avenue Beach.

1. Caffè Oliva at Ohio Street Beach
Avoid beach crowds while still taking in the views at Ohio Street Beach’s Caffè Oliva, which is offering an all-inclusive package, complete with a six-hour open bar and a melange of small plates. And, if you really want to go the extra mile, be sure to book one of the cafe’s cabanas—an all-you-can-eat-and-drink experience for up to 10 people. Aug. 20-21, 11AM-3PM, tickets $129/day, private cabanas $1,150, Ohio Street Beach, 312.612.0734

2. GreenRiver
Experience front-row views of the show from GreenRiver’s 18th floor terrace (one of Chicago’s largest!) during their exclusive summer barbeque, featuring Southern-style bites and drinks from Executive Chef Aaron Lirette and Head Bartender Julia Momose. Aug. 20-21, 11AM-3PM, tickets $85, 259 E. Erie St., 312.337.0101

3. J Parker Rooftop
Less than a mile from North Avenue Beach, J Parker’s gorgeous 13th floor rooftop space packs in the views in the chicest way possible. The hotspot’s bound to be packed, so make sure to reserve a table for up to 10 people (including the best seat in the house). 1816 N. Clark St., 13th floor, 312.254.4747

4. Signature Room
We have a feeling that Signature Room’s annual viewing party won’t disappoint (after all, it’s been years in the making). Your exclusive all-day admission includes an extensive bar package, gourmet buffet, and killer views—all from the comfort of one of the restaurant’s private rooms. Aug. 20-21, 11AM-4PM, tickets $175/day, 875 N. Michigan Ave., 95th floor, 312.787.9596

5. Skydeck Chicago
Get a bird’s eye view of all the action at the Skydeck’s exclusive event, where you’ll be treated to a picnic catered by the Goddess & the Grocer (complete with a fair share of beer and wine, of course) and reserved seating and admission to the Skydeck on the 103rd floor. Aug. 20, 11AM-3PM, tickets $100-150, 233 S. Wacker Drive, 312.875.9447
