Feeling Blue

| September 28, 2011 | Parties

THE PARTY The Shedd Aquarium delivered a sultry lakeside soirĂ©e for its fifth annual Auxiliary Board event, BLU. THE SCENE Co-chaired by Janet Barnes and Julie Hawkins, the sold-out event welcomed more than 1,000 guests to an evening of music, fine dining and magnificent downtown views in a luxurious aquatic setting. Guests mingled on the outdoor terrace as well as throughout Shedd’s Jellies exhibit while sipping Kato sauvignon blanc, Magner’s Irish Cider and beverages from Beam Global Spirits and Wine. The seafood course included a trio of tartares—teriyaki tuna, salmon dill and cobia mango—from Dirk’s Fish and Gourmet Shop as well as gazpacho shooters with manila clams courtesy of Fish Bar. Mercadito’s braised pork tacos and burrata cheese paired with heirloom tomatoes from Sixteen highlighted dinner, which concluded with a chocolate fountain from The Melting Pot. Fireworks over Lake Michigan and dancing on the terrace made for the perfect summer evening. THE BOTTOM LINE More than $150,000 was raised to support Shedd’s conservation and education programs.
