Behind the Wheel of the Ferrari 812 Superfast

We take you behind the wheel of Ferrari’s most powerful V-12 production vehicle, the 812 Superfast.

Ferrari saved its best for the new 812 Superfast two-door sports coupe. Underneath its slinky body is a 12-cylinder engine—the Italian marque’s most powerful and fuel-efficient V-12 power plant ever. So, what’s it like to drive this Italian stallion? Let’s just say “superfast” is a good word to sum it up.

From the outside, the 812 Superfast is the hottest 3,593-pound ubercar you’ve ever laid eyes on. Its proportions are signature Ferrari, with a long sleek hood and muscular wheel arches that hint at its imposing power. Full LED headlights integrate into the design of the sculpted air intakes on the bonnet for a menacing look day or night. From the side, a vent behind the front wheels channels high-pressure air from the wheel
arches along the doors. In back, four round taillights are unmistakably Ferrari, while a rear diffuser equipped with active flaps significantly reduces overall drag.

Inside, the 812 Superfast surprises with a luxurious cabin. The heart of the 812’s controls is on the compact steering wheel—its design seemingly pulled directly from Formula One racers. The start-stop button, blinkers, headlights, even the windshield wipers are all controlled by buttons on the steering wheel. Although it may sound odd, once you experience the 812’s steering-wheel functions, you’ll never want to go back to traditional
blinker stalks again. A secondary screen on the passenger side lets your co-pilot get in on the driving fun by watching your speed, adjusting the infotainment system or seeing a G-force readout. Behind the driver’s seat, find a luggage shelf with leather belt loops to secure your bag.

What we love most about the 812 Superfast, though, is found under the hood. There, the front-mid 6.5-liter V-12 engine churns out a monumental 789 horsepower and 530 lb.-ft. of torque. Mash the pedal and it gallops from 0 to 62 mph in only 2.8 seconds on its way to a top speed of 211 mph. Spine-tingling acceleration is only half the story: The other is the 812’s incredible agility. Point where to go and the 812 falls in line, like a slalom skier, with the engine placement affording uncanny balance and handling.

The 812 Superfast also comes with an impressive warranty, including a hassle-free three-year bumper-to-bumper warranty with no mileage cap and seven years of maintenance included. Seven years of stress-free ownership combined with the 812 Superfast’s unmatched driving experience is why Ferrari already has a waiting list for this $364,852 supercar. Get your name on the list—superfast.
