Expo Chicago 2014 was held in Navy Pier’s Festival Hall.
The Party
Seeing as Expo Chicago is an art fair that entices thousands of art aficionados from around the world (and had record attendance of more than 32,500 this year), it’s no surprise the prelude party, Vernissage, included a five-star guest list. The party, which featured a preview of 140 of the world’s leading galleries, also raised $230,000 to benefit the Museum of Contemporary Art’s education program.
The People
Sprinkled among the 5,000-plus guests in attendance at Navy Pier’s Festival Hall for this third-annual opening were celebs such as George Lucas, David Schwimmer and NBA all-star Shaquille O’Neal.
Best in Show
Some of Chicago’s most respected restaurants (Ada Street, Tanta Chicago and Tête Charcuterie among them) created a melting pot of cuisines to complement the artistic environment. Wine and other spirits were provided by City Winery and Lagunitas Brewing Company. The artwork preview included standout selections from 17 countries and 43 cities. An inspired evening, indeed. –Photos by Dan Rest, Mitch Canoff, Paul Audia and James Prinz
