“A chance encounter at a restaurant on the Gold Coast can change everything about how a tiny little theater changes your life,” said The Gift Theatre’s artistic director, Michael Patrick Thornton, of renowned chef Art Smith’s Table Fifty-Two, as he honored Smith with the Total Gift Award at the first-ever Gift Gala. More than 250 supporters of the theater joyously gathered in the Chicago Cultural Center to partake in delicious tasting stations. The highlight of the evening, however, was the ensemble’s performance of a short play written by Thornton about a man who attempts to rekindle his marriage with the help of a home-cooked dinner from Smith’s cookbook. –Photos courtesy of Eric Craig Studios
