A Grand Gesture

THE PARTY Chicago celebrated its culinary community with the 15th annual Grand Chefs Gala benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Jean Banchet Awards for Culinary Excellence. THE SCENE The Havana-themed party invited 750 guests to sample signature dishes from top chefs and vote on a favorite, all before sitting down to a three-course meal prepared by executive chef of the Fairmont Chicago, Brad Parsons. Emcees Jean Banchet, Steve Dolinsky and Alpana Singh presented the Jean Banchet Awards for Culinary Excellence. Next restaurant won Best New Restaurant and Best Fine Dining, and the Best Chef de Cuisine was also Dave Beran of Next. Rising Chef of the Year went to Chris Macchia of Coco Pazzo; Michael Muser of the Peninsula Chicago won Best Sommelier; Limelight Catering was honored as Best Catering Company; Chef of the Year went to Giuseppe Tentori of GT Fish & Oyster; and the People’s Choice Award for the evening went to Jimmy Bannos Jr. of The Purple Pig. After the ceremony, guests were treated to a live cook-off between Top Chef: Texas contestants Sarah Grueneberg and Beverly Kim. THE BOTTOM LINE More than $550,000 was raised to help the 30,000 children and adults in the U.S. affected with the genetic respiratory and digestive disease to live healthier lives.
