Holiday Magic

When you tire of the tinsel, the Chicago Magic Lounge is ready to astound with additional shows and specialty cocktails to ensure an awestruck evening.
Magician Ryan Plunkett entertains guests with a tableside card trick.

Once upon a time in Chicago, it was easy to find bars that featured magicians who performed card tricks to delight and entertain the drinking public. Now, the Chicago Magic Lounge has reinvented and revived that tradition with a twice-nightly stage performance, The Signature Show, plus tableside performances of up-close card tricks and other sleight-of-hand illusions. All of this takes place in its newly renovated art deco theater and lounge, which is the perfect showcase for illusionists, and between Dec. 26 and New Year’s Eve, the theater has added additional performances, including a family-friendly show on Dec. 30. Special guest performers include Nick Diffatte, Mark Toland and Trent James. Add in specialty cocktails, like the gin-based Gift of the Magi and the Champagne cocktail The Levitation, and you’ve got the antidote to the holiday blues. Chicago Magic Lounge, 5050 N. Clark St., tickets $15-$80
