THE PARTY Chicago now owns the bragging rights of having the world’s largest Ronald McDonald House, and the city—alongside Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana (RMHC-CNI)— celebrated the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Streeterville home. THE PLAYERS The notable guest list included Bill Rancic; Tim Smithe; Don Thompson, CEO of McDonald’s Corporation; Patrick Magoon, president and CEO of the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago; Paul Huebener, chairman for the RMHC-CNI Board of Directors; Stefan Holt and Daniella Guzman of NBC 5; Lou and Monica Canellis; Candace Jordan of; Mark Giangreco of ABC 7 and more. And the program included remarks from Governor Pat Quinn, Senator John Cullerton, former McDonald’s Corporation CEO Jim Skinner, Lovie and MaryAnne Smith, and Doug Porter, CEO of RMHC-CNI. THE BOTTOM LINE Thanks to a gorgeous rooftop terrace, playrooms stocked with toys and movies, communal kitchens and expansive windows overlooking downtown, the 14-story house is now providing care and comfort to 86 families of children in hospital care.
