THE PARTY More than 1,700 Chicago business and civic leaders, community members and Holocaust survivors gathered at the Hyatt Regency Chicago for the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center’s Humanitarian Awards Dinner. THE PLAYERS Reception attendees and the keynote speaker, former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, honored Neil Bluhm, Don Thompson, Rick Waddell, Michael Rubinstein and Shelley Nizynski Reese (who received the inaugural Power of One Award) during a special ceremony. THE BOTTOM LINE The event raised $2 million to support the museum’s dedication to preserving the memories of those lost in the Holocaust and to teach current generations to confront hatred and genocide.
