Forty years after its debut under the Comme des Garçons umbrella, iconic knitwear brand Tricot remains a must-wear label for Chicago’s most in-the-know fashionistas.

Tricot Comme des Garçons is far from new—the knitwear brand debuted in 1981 under the CDG umbrella and has been producing must-wear garments ever since—but the label’s latest collection has made Chicago fashion guru and boutique owner Ikram Goldman fall in love all over again. “It is a treasure in quality, in design and in whimsy,” enthuses Goldman of the ruffly knitted pieces. “I love the youthfulness in the hand that she uses to create the silhouettes; there’s a playfulness in the color and the fit.” How does Goldman see her clients wearing this ultrachic collection? “You could wear the top with a pair of jeans. You could wear the skirt with a white shirt and a belt and wear it to work; they can be casual or dressy, from day to night. Even on a Zoom call you can feel the lightness and frothiness in the ruffles... through the screen.” Ultimately for Goldman, Tricot checks all the boxes: “These pieces are ultra wearable—but also worthy of collecting. They are truly the most timeless of all fashion. End of subject.” 15 E. Huron St., ikram.com; comme-des-garcons.com
