HMR Designs recently led the production of two of the highest-profile galas in Chicago this summer: the MCA Gala and the Joffrey Gala. Only a week apart, the overlap in attendees required careful planning to avoid design crossovers. By leveraging the logistics of trucking, staffing, and production for both events, the team was able to efficiently manage resources and maintain distinct and innovative designs for each gala.
Both events began with similar concepts but naturally diverged as planning progressed. The MCA Gala featured a stunning supper club buildout evoking a candle-lit Cabaret style evening of dinner and dancing, while Joffrey highlighted its art form with boundary-pushing decor. Custom amorphous planters and bespoke oversized floral lined the room and custom photo booths rounded out the night.
HMR's commitment to excellence and creativity has earned accolades such as being named Top Wedding Designers by Martha Stewart and one of the "Top Designers in the World" by Harper's Bazaar. With every event, HMR Designs continues to set the standard for innovation and quality in the event design industry, creating lasting memories for clients.
HMR Designs is a premier event design company based in Chicago, formed in 2010 from the merger of three of the city's leading floral and event design companies. With over 40 years of combined experience, it has now established itself as a powerhouse in the industry.
The team at HMR consists of skilled designers and artisans who work collaboratively to create unique and unforgettable experiences for their clients. Their expertise spans a wide range of event types, including weddings, galas, private celebrations, corporate productions, and mitzvahs. The company specializes in various aspects of event design, such as intricate floral arrangements, custom artwork, graphic branding, fabric treatments, and innovative lighting design.
HMR Designs operates out of a 200,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility that houses a vibrant floral studio, painting and art production areas, fabric and sewing wings, and a fully equipped woodworking shop. This expansive space allows the team to push the boundaries of creativity and craftsmanship, ensuring that every detail of an event is meticulously curated.
Their success in managing multiple high-profile events simultaneously is attributed to their rigorous internal organization. Weekly in-person production meetings with all department heads and managers ensure that everyone is aligned and prepared for the challenges of large-scale event planning. An event lead, appointed early in the process, functions as a project manager and intimately understands the designs, ensuring flawless execution.
