Laura Tribbett of Outline Interiors crafts a stylish, inviting high-rise abode for a family in the St. Regis Chicago.
The living room features a Joybird sectional complemented by Room & Board’s Tyne coffee table, all anchored by a broadloom Hurlock area rug by Stark Carpet.
The Clients
Eager to add personality and warmth to their new condo at The St. Regis Chicago, the clients, a dynamic family with four young adult children and a primary residence in Oak Park suburb aimed to create a welcoming atmosphere with sophisticated, timeless design for their pied-a-terre. To bring their vision to life, they turned to Laura Tribbett, founder and principal of Outline Interiors. “We had worked in the St. Regis multiple times before and had developed a great relationship with the building staff,” says Tribbett. “When our clients purchased their unit and knew they needed design help, the building referred us to their realtor to make that initial connection.”
Phillip Jeffries wallpaper in Calming Sage sets a stylish tone in the primary bedroom, while a Banks slipcover swivel chair by Four Hands in Cambric Ivory adds refined comfort.
The Project
The couple wanted the abode to be a comfortable and inviting space for both work and family gatherings. The goal was to create a central hub where they could host large get-togethers with family and friends, while also offering a welcoming retreat for their children when they visited. “Creating modern, comfortable spaces for their family to relax, watch sports and share meals was core to our design process,” shares Tribbett. “We strived to create an elevated and formal space when needed, but also comfortable and calm for more casual time together.”
Jason Branscum’s photography of Lake Michigan creates a focal point in the dining room, with a Hugo dining table by Mandalay Home Furnishings, Inc. and an Alabaster 4 Swag chandelier from Lucent Light Shop adding sophisticated finishing touches.
The Detail
“I really love the living room entertainment wall moment,” notes Tribbett. “When our clients purchased this unit, this area was just a blank, open space, and they asked us to fill it with a great focal point. [They] wanted an oversized TV on the wall for family lounging, so we opted to create a long, low millwork piece below. This housed the AV components and a concealed wine refrigerator.”
In the primary bedroom, Crate & Barrel’s Oxford ivory upholstered king bed is paired with a Warren nightstand from Pottery Barn and Shaw chandelier from West Elm.
The Challenge
Having purchased their condo in September, the clients’ goal was to have it ready to host family by Christmas. With a compressed schedule, Tribbett was entrusted with transforming the space into a welcoming home for the holiday season. “Our team was able to strategically source pieces that could be installed within that timeframe,” said Tribbett. “We had the place installed, aside from some custom millwork, before the family arrived to comfortably enjoy this special new space.”
Limoges medium pendants from Visual Comfort & Co. and Quincy basketweave counter stools from Pottery Barn bring a sleek touch to the kitchen’s dining area; a variety of curated accessories sourced by the designer add visual interest.
The Outcome
Sums up Tribbett, “Our client has been incredibly pleased with their new downtown digs and has already reached out to do another project.”
