Fashion is serious business, but at its very best it’s also joyful and colorful and comforting—a balm for what ails us during challenging times. That’s exactly what Chicago fashion guru Ikram Goldman loves about fashion designer Lola Faturoti of dual fashion lines Lola Faturoti Loves and Lola Loves Cargo. “Lola’s clothes are what’s in her heart,” enthuses Goldman. “Full of color, joy, comfort, ease and beauty, and that’s just what the heart needs in a wardrobe picker-upper right now.” That translates into perfectly fit pants, whimsical T-shirts, and easy dresses that fit all body types and shapes. “She just feels so right, right now,” notes Goldman, who has been carrying the designer for several seasons and is a particular fan of her cargo pants—perhaps unexpected given Goldman’s penchant for couture. “But these are not your typical cargo pants,” she notes of the garments. “They’re gorgeous. In a world where we’re expected to be more casual, why not wear something that’s also incredibly colorful and fits beautifully? I’m all for a cargo pant when it looks like this.” How does Goldman see Faturoti’s clothes being worn? “It’s funny,” she admits, “even though these clothes are meant to be very casual, I associate them with things that are much more dressy. I would do one of these dresses for a dressy cocktail party with a strappy Celine rhinestone high heel; I would wear the colorful jeans with a cool pair of high heels and a great little jacket.” In fact, Goldman is so enamored with the collection that she’s asked the designer for more. “Lola is actually designing a special cropped little jacket for me—she’s having it made to go with those pants and to be worn over the dresses. It’s spectacular.” 15 E. Huron St., ikram.com; lolafaturotiloves.com; lolalovescargo.com
