For 30 years, Bittersweet Pastry Shop has set the standard for fine pastry in Chicago, creating precious memories with our wedding cakes and specialty desserts.
Founded in 2012 by James Beard Outstanding Baker Award nominee Judy Contino, and now under the leadership of Chef Mindy Gohr and Restaurateur Esther Griego, the shop is best known for being one of Chicago’s leading wedding cake bakeries.
“Our hope is to spread happiness and joy to as many people as we can,” Griego says. “Once someone has tasted a Bittersweet cake, it’s really hard for them to go anywhere else.”
The passion and mastery that goes into each of our cakes definitely shows through.
"I just love baking,” says Gohr, who has been with the bakery since 2005. “It’s like magic knowing what's happening with the ingredients that we are creating something truly special.’
Bittersweet offers a personalized wedding cake consultation process for couples to help them create a custom cake or choose a unique selection of bite-sized desserts for a sweet table.
“Our goal is to create an enchanting experience for our couples,” says Griego. “We want the cake to be the sweetest part of their wedding planning.”
