The Peninsula Chicago
The Michelin Guide has revealed its first-ever U.S. hotel rankings, and eight Chicago hotels have officially made the list. Awardees were granted one key for “special” service, two keys for “exceptional” stays or three keys for “extraordinary” experiences, based on criteria like local contribution, interior design and architecture, individuality, consistency and quality of service.
This River North staple has earned two keys for its service, architectural design and ultra-luxe amenities like the Chuan Spa, its Tim Graham-helmed eatery Travelle and its swanky Pavilion lobby lounge.
Located in the 1929 art deco Carbide & Carbon Building, the Pendry’s Loop views, historic architecture and opulent amenities earn it two keys, with Bar Pendry, Chateau Carbide and its flagship restaurant as the icing on the cake.
One of only three Peninsula Hotels in the U.S., this Chicago flagship has earned its place on the Michelin Guide’s two key recipients for its elegant and elaborate rooms, impressive lobby lounge, efficient and exceptional service and top dining destination Shanghai Terrace.
This Millenium Park hotel has garnered one key for luxe amenities and iconic Venetian Gothic architecture, paired with a no-holes-barred renovation from architects Hartshorne Plunkard and interior designer Roman and Williams. Other in-house standouts are Cindy’s Rooftop, the Cherry Circle, The Game Room, the Milk Room and the Shake Shack outpost.
Japanese-inspired hotel and restaurant Nobu has received one key for its welcoming atmosphere, lavish and custom-designed accommodations and, of course, its notoriety as a dining destination, with food and beverage offerings led by world-renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa.
With a historic location in the 1929 McGraw-Hill building, The Gwen’s stunning art deco accents, in-house Mediterranean restaurant and open-air rooftop bar have granted it one Michelin key.
With a premier Gold Coast location, contemporary decor, TAL Studio-designed rooms and its American eatery Somerset, the Viceroy Chicago has secured one key, attesting to its exceptional hospitality standards.
Notable amenities like its elaborate English-style courtyard, two on-site restaurants, handcrafted European Vi-Spring beds and accents like fireplaces, terraces and expansive tubs have earned this Gold Coast gem one key.
