THE COUPLE During Joni Meeder and Cory Moon’s two-year engagement, the groom-to-be changed his last name. “Moon was Joni’s last name at birth in South Korea,” he shares. “When discussing changing last names, she said she always thought if she were going to change her last name, it would be back to Moon.’” So he did it first: Cory made Moon his official last name, then Joni joined and took his name.
THE DETAILS Community House Winnetka is where Joni’s dad took his first guitar lesson as a kid. “Fast forward to our wedding night, and he’s there performing a song he wrote just for us,” Cory says. The ceremony included nods to Korean heritage, including the groom gifting his in-laws a pair of wooden geese.
THE PARTY The newlyweds arrived at the reception in a 1956 Rolls-Royce and saw Michigan Shores Club transformed with hues of lavender, periwinkle, raspberry and sage. “We [added] Korean flare to the menu with beef short rib in a bulgogi marinade and soy-glazed salmon,” Cory says. And then, there was a meaningful homage to their new shared last name: For their first dance, the couple waltzed to “Moon River.”
They worked together to design the invitation suite themselves.
Joni’s custom gown had an 8-foot train and an ivory satin bow by La Premiere.
Her bouquet featured butterfly ranunculus, blush dahlias and cool water roses.
