Morocco Magique!

| July 30, 2012 | Parties

THE PARTY The Alliance Française de Chicago Woman’s Board threw its biennial gala, Le Bal Magique du Maroc, at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago. THE SCENE Taking cues from Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé’s Jardin Majorelle in Marrakesh, KKM Design transformed the Four Seasons Hotel Grand Ballroom into a magical Moroccan garden. The fantastical landscape featured a Moroccan belly dancer, juggler and henna artist entertaining guests as they sipped Champagne and orange-blossom cocktails while walking through the exotically lit environs, decorated with hydrangeas, roses, glowing pink henna patterns, colorful tents and Moroccan rugs. THE PLAYERS The event was led by Woman’s Board president Michèle Archambault and hosted by honorary co-chair Mitzi Freidheim and gala co-chairs Suzette Bulley and Margaret Unetich. Guests of honor included His Excellency Mohamed Bouhlal, ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United States; His Excellency François Delattre, ambassador of France to the United States; and Graham Paul, consul general of France in Chicago. THE BOTTOM LINE More than $700,000 was raised to assist the educational and cultural programs at the Alliance Française de Chicago. Photos by Mary Clare and Cheri Eisenberg
