A Night With Shakespeare

| August 4, 2014 | Parties

The Party
From the decor to the performances, the Chicago Shakespeare Theater Gala was a night full of bard-themed fun, raising a record-breaking $1.2 million for Chicago Shakespeare in Urban Communities.

The Scene
The theater’s home at Navy Pier was transformed into a forest out of Shakespeare’s play A Midsummer Night’s Dream with lush flower arrangements and trees. Guests enjoyed signature cocktails like the Bee’s Knees with vodka, fresh lemon juice, honey and berries, while actors dressed as iconic Shakespearean characters. After a dinner of herb-roasted tenderloin and wild mushrooms, Greg and Denise Smith graciously collected the Spirit of Shakespeare Award on behalf of the Boeing Company, while Mike Nussbaum, a celebrated CST and Broadway actor, also was honored.

The Highlights
The stage events stole the evening with musical performances from Broadway actresses Allison Semmes and Susan Moniz. CPS Shakespeare students performed monologues, and their teachers spoke about their positive experiences with CST educational programs. The night ended on a sweet note when performers and guests came together to enjoy fruit tarts and miniature pecan pies. –Photos by Patrick Fahrner and Michael Litchfield
