A Novel Event

| January 22, 2015 | Parties

While many laughingly referred to the Chicago Public Library’s Carl Sandburg Literary Awards Dinner as “Chicago’s smartest event,” the evening proved the moniker was no exaggeration. Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, legendary fiction writer Larry McMurtry, musical icon Mavis Staples and best-selling Divergent author Veronica Roth were the honorees at the event led by emcee Bill Kurtis, and 69 authors, all with ties to Chicago, were among the 700 guests. Mayor Rahm Emanuel took the stage to toast the event, which raised more than $1.5 million for the Chicago Public Library Foundation. –Photos by Johnny Knight and Dan Rest
