Opening Doors

| December 31, 2013 | Parties

An evening filled with music, dance and performance art was in store for the more than 200 black-tie guests who filled Columbia College Chicago’s Media Production Center for the third annual Open Doors Gala. The event funds scholarships for Chicago Public Schools graduates to attend the prestigious arts college.

After posing for photos on the red carpet, the chic crowd mingled over cocktails and passed bites before moving to the massive film production soundstage for a candlelit dinner. Following a dazzling student showcase that included a fashion show, musical numbers and interpretive dancers, former Columbia President Warrick Carter took the stage to present the man of the hour, Allen Turner, with the Chicago Legacy Award for his many civic and artistic contributions in both Chicago and around the world. Renowned for his wit, Turner soon had the audience laughing as he reflected on his impressive career with The Pritzker Organization, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and Columbia College.

The gala ended with a spirited student parade featuring soaring whimsical puppets, and departing guests were presented with a complimentary snapshot of their red-carpet moment. –Photography by Becker Media
