Petal Pushers

| April 7, 2014 | Parties National

The Party
In keeping with the Petals and Pearls theme of the 30th annual Guild Board of Directors’ Fantasy of the Opera gala, the 550 guests donned their best black-tie attire accented with plenty of pearls.

The Scene
Taiko drummers, beautiful kimonos, glowing paper lanterns, an origami showcase, a traditional torii gate and continuous screenings of anime films helped transform the Civic Opera House into a stunning Japanese garden. To further set the mood, guests sipped on sake and nibbled on sushi from favorite West Town Japanese restaurant Arami. Afterward, artists of the Lyric’s current season, including Ana María Martínez (Rusalka), Christine Brewer (The Sound of Music) and David Cangelosi (Madama Butterfly), sang selections from Broadway classics in a star-studded cabaret performance.

The Highlights
For VIP ticketholders and gala sponsors, a sit-down dinner by Limelight Catering in the opulent Ardis Krainik Theatre provided a rare treat. A high-energy set from Rendezous Music kept the crowd dancing until midnight. Equally moving: The annual gala raised $412,000 for the opera company. Hitting the high notes, indeed. –Photos by Dan Rest and Aaron Ryskiwicz
